The pixel; Disinfirmation; Twitter's content
💡Think
I’ve been talking a lot recently at work about how we need to build more of a “feedback culture”. Without positive (or negative!) feedback communicated regularly and effectively, it’s really hard for people to grow.
I then came across this New York Times article about Twitter’s attempt to do this, and was a bit alarmed. Twitter have tried to instil this type of culture, but through a bit more of a “bad cop” method.
As a result, a concerning amount of employees have reported not feeling psychologically safe at work.
Yikes.
Feedback is great, bullying is not.

❶ A biography of the pixel
You read that right, it’s a very detailed long read about the history of the “pixel”, those little things we’re staring at right now on our screens. It loops in mathematics, science, and even talks about Napoleon for a little bit. Buckle up, it’s going to be a ride.

❷ The story of disinformation
We’re no strangers to the world of fake news now, given its normalisation of the past few years, but just why is this type of media consumption so alarming for us right now? Well, firstly it’s always available, and secondly we’re exposed to points of view historically outside of our availability. This is a great long read about “bad news”, and why it’s both frightening and fascinating for us. It’s US focussed, but really interesting even if you’re not American.

❸ Twitter’s long-form strategy
Second piece of Twitter content today folks. You may remember a few months ago when Twitter bought the newsletter company Revue, well they’ve now started to integrate it into the product – this is very exciting. What does the future of longer-than-280-characters look like on Twitter? They have an opportunity here to make blogging and newsletter-ing (technical term) a lot more exciting.

Deus ex Machina – AI and humans
This is fascinating stuff. They look at how AI and technology is developing to merge humans and the machine. They introduce a term I haven’t heard before called “trans human”, which is exactly that. Our cyborg futures are possibly closer than we think.
