Social's ending; Democratise tech; Influencer capital
💡Think
Hellooooooo,
I skipped last week's because I was hit by the flu which seems to be wiping everyone out at the moment. Stay safe out there.
I've been thinking about career / job playbooks a bit recently, and how it's really difficult to be consistently successful without constantly shifting.
The blueprint of our success today will not work in 12 months.
So how can we keep track of change? I think the answer is not embedding yourself in process to much, keeping enough slack / buffer to account for change.
With time comes new challenges, and unless we plan for it we're gonna be hit with surprises which could derail our progress.
Build buffers!
Have a great week 🎢

❶ The age of social media is ending
A little dramatic, but there's truth in this. The article runs through how the social media landscape has changed over the year, to a point where we're now looking at a situation where most people use if for publishing rather than networking. I think that's the crux. Twitter is flooded with first-person perspectives, rather than people looking to communicate with others!
❷ Why does every tech company want to “democratise” something?
Now you've read the headline, you are probably thinking "oh yeah, they do!". It's funny, but it seems like tech's goals have been to straddle the line of work and politics. We vote with our feet but choosing software that aligns with how we look at the world. And then they dodge taxes anyway 😂
❸ The rise of influencer capital
I always find it funny when I see a mundane product using a known figure to advertise. An example being when I saw an England footballer who's surname is Rice advertising the yoghurt brand Muller Rice. A fantastic waste of money. This article explores just how much power this "inluencer" market has over brands, who are desperate to sell their products and become known.
