💡Think
Nothing career-focussed for this week’s introduction folks.
It’s starting to get particularly cold on this side of the planet, which means that it’s a great chance for us to buy a few less coffees this week and donate to a homeless charity.
They’d really appreciate it, and with inequality on the rise, it’s much needed.

❶ How our system revenges rest
This article is a bit of a deep existential cut into how the only way we can truly be effective as employees is if we were all…robots. Robots don’t take vacation, get “behind” if they need to take a personal appointment, or need to stop working after 12 hours because their eyes are hurting. Resting is what we need to stay productive, but not working is the enemy of our hyper productive culture.

❷ Inside your dreamscape
I included an article a little while ago about advertising within VR, and it looks like we’re on a fast track to adverts in every part of our lives, including dreams. “Dream-hacking” isn’t only nauseatingly scary, but apparently a real thing that people want. My dreams are vivid enough as it is, let alone with companies hacking into them and making me buy more gadgets I don’t need.

❸ What collective narcissism does to society
This is a new term for me, but it makes a lot of sense. Collective narcissism is when a group of people identify with each other so much that they view those that don’t through an incredibly narrow lens. Although this isn’t necessarily surprising, what is is that we’re all doing it, and our liberal intentions are probably having the opposite effect – a lack of inclusion.

A series on friendship
This podcast series was recommended to my by a colleague, and I’ve checked a few of them out. I think you will all enjoy these – it’s a series about friendship in our modern lives, the intricacies of what it means to be friends, how to make them, and the new trend of going to therapy with your friends (yeah!).
