Moore's Law; Remix culture; Remote small talk
💡Think
I’d like to invite you to think about rational optimism this week.
Would you consider yourself to be optimistic? Or is it easy to focus on the negatives first?
I can sometimes be nauseatingly positive about situations, because of that growth mindset thing I spoke about a few weeks ago.
Being rationally optimistic is where you can appreciate that some things suck, but at the same time are aware you can still put one foot in front of the other and move in a direction – it’s important to keep moving.
When we keep moving, with our rational thinking as a base, we will make progress. Being stuck in the mud is where we can stall and watch as our to do lists pile up with no end in sight.

❷ Remix culture, or how no ideas are new
Taking someone’s idea and putting your own spin on it is nothing new, but it’s central to how a lot of modern businesses are scaling massively. How many products do you use that offer you a template to start with? It’s key to onboarding someone whilst giving them just enough inspiration to make their own thing. This article looks at remix culture and how it impacts modern platforms like Substack, Tiktok, Notion, Figma, and more.

❸ Remote workers need small talk too
I met a few colleagues yesterday and it became apparent very quickly that we didn’t really know much about each other. It’s easy in a remote world to not have those personal conversations that we live and breath in an office. So how can we encourage these types of interactions? The irony of this newsletter being about removing small talk isn’t lost here.
