💡Think
I was part of a great open session this week about fixed and growth mindsets.
The differences between the two are how you approach a challenge. Do you look at obstacles either:
As an opportunity, where you can learn and grow
As something out of your control. You can either do something or you can’t
It’s useful to understand where you sit on this scale, as it can help inform how you approach life, relationships, and…well, everything.
I’m painfully optimistic when it comes to opportunity, so it wasn’t too hard for me to see that I was of the growth variety.
Have a great week!

❶ Why did I leave Google, or why did I stay so long?
This is a must read. It’s a fantastic insight into what is was like to work at Google from the perspective of the Waze CEO (acquired by the Goog in 2013). He flexes on the issues with Corp-Tech, how startup culture is precious, and how privileged the industry really is.

❷ Drawing the personal line
I retweeted something this week which noted how whenever people share a personal update, it’s more often than not about their work. Our personal and work lives aren’t one, and we need constant reassurance of this. This article fleshes the idea out a bit more.

❸ Big tech is all the same
It’s…kind of true. Think about the social media apps you use and you’ll quickly notice how they basically all have the same features, copycatted from the latest popular upstart. This isn’t fun. Innovation falls by the wayside if the main driver for success is monthly active users.

The story behind I’m Lovin’ It
You know, the McDonald’s theme music? This podcast speaks to the people behind the tune and how it was the largest marketing exercise in McDonald’s history, because they had to make one jingle for every single country they had restaurants. It’s a fascinating story.
