Apple's not remote; Music and math; Happiness

Famously, when Bob Dylan stepped on stage at the Newport Folk Festival in July 25, 1965 and played his set with an electric band, he was booed. This lasted years as he switched up his sound from a previously folky acoustic one to this āraucousā electric style.
What people didnāt realise at the time was that he was effectively reinventing the industry with this crossover sound, and itās artistic risks like these that are what stands the best out from the rest.
What risks are you willing to take, stepping out of line just enough to be noticed? Without calculated artistic risk, weāre at risk of stagnating, with our industries stalling and ultimately falling out of favour.

ā¶ Appleās anti-remote stance
This was actually news to me, but apparently Apple are making it harder than ever for employees to try and not working in their office, going as far as asking for medical reports to prove that you need to be at home (ā¦yeah). This all apparently stems from the Steve Jobs era, where meetings ā and loud ones at that ā ruled the decision making roost. Scary stuff.

ā· Ringing the chords of the universe
This oneās definitely for the nerds amongst us, as it jumps head first into understanding how music and mathematics are, and have always been, intertwined. Itās quite a long read, but any article that discusses music and Pythagorasā theory will have us all interested, so grab a coffee for this one.

āø The definition of happiness depends on where you live
This was a fascinating (short ish) read about how we look at happiness very differently depending on where in the world we live, or even where in the same country we are based. Itās wild even at a linguistic level, because of how the word āhappyā and its origins are rooted in either luck or growth, depending on whether youāre using a Germanic, or Latin-based language.

Your boss is not your parent
Culture is what binds (and breaks) successful teams in the workplace, and in order to create super close relationships, we are put in positions where itās the done thing to share everything about our lives with our team and bosses. The though reality is that we're in anĀ āageĀ of obedienceā, and crossing those boundaries into personal oversharing will probably cause more issues than we think. This podcast attempts to answer the question: how can we set good boundaries at work?Ā
