A.I. here; Dysfunctional teams; Microwave economy
💡Think
I’ve been thinking a lot about sunk costs recently.
A colleague on my team left their position this week because they have just had enough of tech. Despite investing a decade into their job and the industry, they made the brave call to say “you know what, this just isn’t for me.”
The sunk costs of this decade didn’t affect their decision making, and it’s something I think we can all learn from.
I’m not suggesting you quit your job, but whenever you’re faced with a decision about something you’ve already invested a lot of time in, don’t be afraid to take a different direction.
The amount of time we invest in something shouldn’t have a bearing on our ability to continue or stop it.

❶ A.I. here, there, everywhere
Most of us are living in an A.I. rich world already. Even though I’ve switched off the Google Assistant on my speaker, it’s still…there. And Siri “accidentally” being switched on every 5 minutes reminds me of this too. This article takes a deep dive into how artificial intelligence is developing, and what it means for a more digitally personal world.

❷ On dysfunctional teams
We’ve all been there. A once-happy team at work has descended into a position of constant friction, no one wants to collaborate and communication has broken down. How do we get up here, and how can we fix it?

❸ The microwave economy, or how we’re all lazy
This article demonstrates some excellent story telling. They present us with the humble microwave meal, then deconstruct it to highlight how our societies are hurtling towards a world where we place convenience over quality in every aspect. You can’t really disagree with it to be honest.

Disney’s CEO – How acquisitions become an ecosystem
I really enjoyed this one. I wouldn’t have been able to name the Disney CEO before listening, but he shares some great stories about how some huge gambles paid off in turning things around for them. One of the stories is about how he convinced a man called Steve Jobs to sell Pixar to them.
