I’ve been thinking a lot about sunk costs recently.
A colleague on my team left their position this week because they have just had enough of tech. Despite investing a decade into their job and the industry, they made the brave call to say “you know what, this just isn’t for me.”
The sunk costs of this decade didn’t affect their decision making, and it’s something I think we can all learn from.
I’m not suggesting you quit your job, but whenever you’re faced with a decision about something you’ve already invested a lot of time in, don’t be afraid to take a different direction.
The amount of time we invest in something shouldn’t have a bearing on our ability to continue or stop it.

I really enjoyed this one. I wouldn’t have been able to name the Disney CEO before listening, but he shares some great stories about how some huge gambles paid off in turning things around for them. One of the stories is about how he convinced a man called Steve Jobs to sell Pixar to them.
